A letter from Pastor Stan.

Dear Family and Friends of Sierra Vista,

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” (Matthew 5:14-15.)

This particular scripture speaks in so many ways of the hearts and hands of our church. The love, compassion, and service, of Sierra Vista provides life and color to the landscape of our community. Offering Jesus Christ and transforming lives are who we are and what we do, and that is clearly seen in our passion in seeking to meet the needs of families, youth, and children.

Over the last year and a half, we have been on a quest considering God’s vision for our future. The needs of our church and community have led and fed conversations that are culminating in plans that will facilitate the future of God’s ministry here, and provide for outreach to our neighbors next door and across town. As we approach the Fall, our next step comes as we consider our financial capacity to live the vision that is before us through a “capital campaign.”

In the coming weeks, we will all be invited to take some part in this process. God has provided gifts and grace to each of us that will allow us to play a specific role in this process and being open and obedient to God’s call is essential to this project.

My invitation is that we begin to pray as to our individual roles in this process, and that God’s Holy Spirit would give us the desire and passion to be used in whatever areas necessary to achieve God’s dream.

I am truly excited to experience and share in the great work that God will do through us.

In Christ,
Pastor Stan

Committee Work

In January, 2018, Sierra Vista UMC appointed a nine-person Building Committee. The purpose of this committee is to respond to the needs of the congregation as identified by a Holy Conversations Team. This first team spent six (6) months in discernment and discussion with representatives from the Texas Methodist Foundation regarding what God is calling Sierra Vista to be and do in the near and distant future. These Holy Conversations resulted in two distinct but unrelated callings for Sierra Vista UMC:

  • To grow as a faith community in every way we can
  • To help children and youth throughout the City of San Angelo to thrive in every way they can

The resulting Building Committee is now pleased to share a tentative, preliminary copy of the conceptual plan for the expansion of Church facilities. This rendering is the result of six (6) months of Building Committee meetings, much prayer, and a great deal of discernment regarding the call that the Holy Conversations Team felt was being offered to Sierra Vista.

The process still has many steps to go, but everyone is invited and encouraged to stay informed as progress is made. All future announcements, meeting minutes, and major developments will be available on this link. For any questions or feedback, please contact Building Committee members or call the Church Office at 325/944-4041.
